About the Breast Cancer Early Detection Program
The Judite Justino Foundation has developed a breast cancer screening program focused on early detection — the most important step in increasing the chances of a cure.
Through a mobile health unit, we bring this service to different regions, facilitating access to exams such as clinical breast evaluation, ultrasound and, when necessary, image-guided biopsy.
All care is provided by a multidisciplinary team, using modern equipment and a genuine commitment to the care, privacy and dignity of each woman.
The Reality of Breast Cancer in Mozambique

Important data
- Many women still lack access to clear and accessible information about breast cancer, which prevents them from recognizing the importance of regular screening.
- In the last 5 years, breast cancer has been the most frequently diagnosed type of cancer among Mozambican women, representing a growing public health challenge in the country.
- Breast cancer accounted for 8% of all cancer deaths in Mozambique, a number that could be reduced with greater access to screening and timely diagnosis.
- The age group most affected is between 30 and 59 years old, a stage of life in which many women are pillars of their families and society, making this reality even more worrying.
- Late diagnosis remains the main reason why so many women lose their lives to breast cancer, a situation that can be prevented with more information, screening and access to appropriate medical care.

How does the screening work?
Screening follows an organized process, carried out by qualified professionals, to ensure a reliable and safe diagnosis.
1. Scheduling
Once we've collected enough donations, our team schedules a visit to the location. All registered women will be contacted with the date and place of the service.
2. Triage and Clinical Breast Exam
A doctor performs a visual inspection and palpation of the breasts and armpits to identify suspicious changes.
3. Breast Ultrasound
If changes are identified, an ultrasound is performed to distinguish solid nodules from simple cysts.
4. Biopsy
In suspected cases, a breast biopsy is performed with digital equipment, guided by ultrasound.
5. Referral
If cancer is suspected, the patient is referred for oncological follow-up.
